Structural principle: brushed motor uses brushes and commutator to realize current commutation and make the motor rotate; brushless motor relies on electronic commutator and position sensor to control current and realize motor operation.

Performance characteristics: brushed motor has large starting torque, but relatively low speed, and will generate electric sparks during operation, which is easy to wear brushes and commutator, resulting in shortened motor life; brushless motor has higher speed and efficiency, can provide stronger power output, and has less noise and runs more smoothly.

Maintenance: brushed motor needs to replace brushes and commutator regularly, and the maintenance cost is high; brushless motor does not need regular maintenance and has a long service life.

Reasons and advantages of brushless motor

Brushless motor uses electronic commutation to avoid mechanical friction between brush motor brush and commutator, reduce energy loss and noise, and improve motor efficiency and reliability.

It can achieve more precise speed control and position control, suitable for occasions with high control accuracy requirements.

Brushless motors usually have higher power density and can provide greater power output in a smaller volume and weight.

Working principle of brushless DC motors

Brushless DC motors consist of three parts: motor body, position sensor and electronic commutator. The position sensor detects the position information of the rotor in real time and transmits it to the electronic commutator. According to the position information of the rotor, the electronic commutator controls the conduction and cutoff of the power switch tube according to a certain logic, thereby changing the direction of the current in the motor winding and making the motor generate continuous rotation torque.

Waterproofing of brushless motors

Generally speaking, brushless motors themselves have a certain waterproof ability. This is because their structure is relatively closed and there are no parts such as brushes and commutators that are easy to get into water. At the same time, the motor casing is usually sealed to prevent moisture from entering the motor. However, the waterproof performance of brushless motors of different brands and models varies. Some high-end brushless motors may use more advanced waterproof technology and materials to adapt to harsher use environments.

Regarding how to test the electric scooter motor

You can usually do it from the following aspects:

Check whether the electric scooter motor appearance is damaged; use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the motor winding to determine whether there is a short circuit or open circuit; power on the motor and observe the operation of the motor, including speed, noise, vibration, etc.; use professional motor testing equipment, such as a dynamometer, to measure the motor’s output power, torque and other performance parameters. For brushless motors, you also need to check whether the position sensor and electronic commutator are working properly.
